Periodontal Services
Diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease (gum disease) is important to stop the spread of the disease and to help maintain healthy gums and teeth. While serious, periodontal disease is treatable. If left untreated, it can lead to bone and tooth loss. Periodontal disease is not reversible, but with proper care and treatment it can be controlled. Periodontal services include deep cleanings, management of pockets of the gums, oral hygiene education, more frequent dental cleaning appointments, and medicated/ antibiotic treatment if necessary.
Periodontal Maintenance
Periodontal disease is a gum infection caused by bacteria and plaque forming on your teeth and under the gum line resulting in inflammation. At your Periodontal Maintenance appointment teeth and gums will be cleaned of tartar, plaque, and satins. Pockets will be measured and monitored each visit. Proper dental hygiene habits are critical in the treatment of periodontal disease.

Scaling and Root Planing
Scaling and Root Planing, or a deep cleaning, is a more in-depth, thorough cleaning treatment recommended for patients who may be suffering from periodontal disease. It is typically performed under local anesthesia to keep patients comfortable during the treatment. When your gums become inflamed, bacteria hides deep in the pockets, resulting in bone loss, loose teeth, or tooth loss. Effectively cleaning into these deep pockets will reduce gum inflammation allowing the gums to reseal around the teeth, and prevent the progression of periodontal disease.
